Mayor of Brussels apologized for deportations of Jewish inhabitants during the Holocaust 

4. September 2012 – Mayor Freddy Thielemans apologized on Sunday at a ceremony in Brussels City Hall for the deportation of Jews during the Holocaust. The Belgian city registered Jewish people living in it in the 1940s. Read more. 


After Rabbi in Vienna reported being abused at a soccer game, Jewish leaders protested 

3. September 2012 – The Simon Wiesenthal Centre wrote a letter to the Interior Ministry of Austria after a local Rabbi from Vienna was verbally attacked and shown the Hitler salute at a soccer game in the Austrian capital and the nearby police didn’t act. Read more. 


Cancellation of High Holiday prayers in the Egyptian city of Alexandria 

3. September 2012 – Due to security concerns, High Holiday prayers were cancelled in the only synagogue in Alexandria.  The Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue in Alexandria is one of the world oldest active synagogues and the largest in the Middle East. Read more. 


Pro-Israel rally in Stockholm: 1,200 people joined

2. September 2012 - 1,200 people attended a pro-Israel demonstration in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Pro-Palestinian activists waved Palestinian flags nearby. Read more.
